Entrance Test Options:

  • GMAT:

        • Nearest testing location to Cal Poly is in Santa Maria

        • Tests are available year round

          • Make sure to sign up well in advance as testing days and times tend to fill up

    • Test prep

      • GMAT books available for purchase at Amazon or available for check-out at local libraries

      • Sign up at the GMAT website for free online practice material

    • Most Cal Poly Students take the GMAT Exam

  • GRE:

    • Website: https://www.ets.org/gre

      • Basic information

        • Testing center located on the Cal Poly campus

        • $205

    • Test prep materials can be purchased through the GRE website or on Amazon

 

Prerequisites:

  • MS Accounting

    • An acceptable Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited institution in accounting or other discipline

    • 8 quarter units (or 6-8 semester credits) in intermediate-level financial accounting

    • 4 quarter units (or 3 semester credits) in Federal taxation

  • MS Tax

    • Acceptable Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited institution in accounting or any other discipline

    • Acceptable GMAT or GRE score

    • 4 quarter units in Federal Taxation

    • 8 quarter units in any accounting subject (in addition to the federal taxation course

  • Must have a GPA of 2.5

  • Minimum GMAT score required for admission is 530

Application process to Cal Poly:

    • This can be done before you even take the GMAT so as soon as your test score comes in the application process will be complete

  • Interfolio application: Specific to Cal Poly

    • Letters of recommendation

      • Only needed if not from Cal Poly or if GPA or GMAT score is below average

    • Personal Statement

      • This is a chance to explain any bad grades in specific classes or an overall low GPA

      • If there are no problems with grades or test scores explain why you chose to attend grad school

    • Current Resume

    • Official transcripts from all previous colleges/universities attended

  • Note: Transcripts are not needed from students who received their undergraduate degree from Cal Poly and have not attended any other colleges or universities since their graduation from Cal Poly.
